Technical Infrastructure

In the framework of its remit, the BLM also sees to the transmission of radio and television services by supporting technical infrastructures as well as new transmission technologies. In 2006, approx. 2.9 million Euros were set aside for this task. Of the total sum, approx. 700.000 Euros are put into the support of technical transmission networks for local VHF services.

In addition, Bavarian local and regional television stations will receive approx. 7.5 million Euros during 2006 from the cable fee raised from cable households for the promotion of technical infrastructures and technical innovations.

To enhance the attractiveness of Bavaria for the media industry and thus for the consumers, the BLM supports the introduction of new broadcasting techniques and other media technologies. The BLM pioneered a trial for the introduction of digital audio broadcasting. Bavaria was among the first German states to take up regular DAB transmission, offering radio services for digital reception. Technical distribution of digital radio is supported by the BLM in 2004 with a total of 1.4 million Euros.
