Leyla Dogruel, Ph.D., is professor of communication science specializing in social communication at the University of Erfurt. Her research explores how digitization and automation alter the dynamics of societal and individual communication. Before her tenure at Erfurt, she held an assistant professorship in media systems and services at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and earned her PhD in media innovations from FU Berlin in 2013. She explores media structures and their impacts on society, privacy, and the automation of digital media, as well as the transformations in communication facilitated by AI. Her research was published in journals such as New Media & Society, Information, Communication & Society, Media Business Studies, Social Media + Society. Additionally, she contributes her expertise to shaping media policy and public discourse, particularly regarding the public funding of local journalism and the future landscape of local media.
